Overview of the NDUK Mentorship ProgramThe MANSAG-NDUK Mentorship Program is a structured initiative designed to foster professional growth, networking, and support within our community of Nigerian doctors in the UK. Guided by a commitment to excellence and collaboration, the program aims to facilitate meaningful mentor-mentee relationships that contribute to the personal and professional development of all participants. The mentorship period may last for 12 months, and the option to extend it would be agreed by mentee and mentor. Key Features of the Mentorship Program: Matching Process: Once mentees express interest in the program, they are carefully matched with experienced mentors based on their goals, interests, and areas of expertise. This ensures compatibility and maximizes the potential for a productive mentoring relationship. Ground Rules and Expectations: Prior to their first meeting, mentees and mentors are provided with a contract outlining the ground rules, expectations, and responsibilities on both sides. This contract serves as a framework for the mentoring relationship, establishing clear boundaries and fostering mutual respect. Preparation and Introduction: Mentees are asked to complete a questionnaire providing insights into their background, aspirations, and expectations. This information is shared with their mentor in advance, enabling mentors to familiarize themselves with their mentee's profile and tailor their approach accordingly. Mentor Training: All mentors are required to complete an online mentor module, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to support their mentees effectively. This training ensures that mentors are well-prepared to provide guidance, feedback, and support throughout the mentoring process. DBS Check Certification: To ensure the safety and protection of all parties involved, mentors are required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and provide a valid certificate. This precautionary measure helps to create a secure environment for mentor-mentee interactions and builds trust within the program. Continuous Support and Monitoring: Throughout the duration of the mentorship, program coordinators provide ongoing support and guidance to both mentees and mentors. Regular check-ins and evaluations help to monitor progress, address any challenges that arise, and ensure a positive and enriching experience for all participants. The MANSAG-NDUK Mentorship Program is founded on the principles of collaboration, empowerment, and professional development. By facilitating meaningful connections and providing structured support, the program aims to nurture the talents and potential of our members, empowering them to thrive in their careers and make meaningful contributions to the field of medicine. REGISTER FOR THE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM BY COMPLETING THE ASSESSMENT FORM.
-
How do I register to join the mentorship program as a mentee or mentor?Simply use the links provided to complete the assessment form online. You will be contacted by email with relevant details and the next steps in your application.
-
Who can become a mentor?Anyone who has experience and a skill to share can offer support in the mentorship program. As a mentor, your advise will stem from your experience and leadership and your participation is voluntary. When needed, please inform your mentor that your advice is not meant to substitute professional advice (e.g. on medico-legal matter) or replace the need to seek professional help when needed (e.g. in mental health crisis).
-
Who can request a mentor?Members are unable to directly request a mentor. The mentorship program will review your assessment form and pair you with the most suitable acceptable mentor available.
-
How much time per week is needed? Most mentee/mentor schedule their meetings and may spend about 1-2 hours per week talking to their mentoring partner and reviewing plans or steps made. At the start of your partnership, always include information about how much time you are able to commit and how you prefer to communicate so people can decide if your availability matches their needs.
-
How do I communicate with my mentoring partner? Both mentee & mentor would be expected to decide on a mutual communication preference and timing. Please read through our mentorship guidance. All participation is voluntary and no money should be exchanged through this program. If you decide to meet up in person, be safe and meet in a public place.
-
Is it ok to recommend my products or services in my mentorship program? No. NDUK mentorship is not a paid mentorship program. It is a voluntary service and the rules of our community apply within your mentorship profile and program, e.g. NO solicitations or self promotion. Any recommendations must comply with the same rules for the group concerning commerce or promotional material. For example, an author of a motivational book should not use this mentoring program as a marketing or promotional tool to get mentees to purchase his/her book. Mentees are highly advised to contact NDUK leadership team with concerns if they feel pressured to patronize a particular product or services. All concerns will be handled confidentially.
